This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Originally known as “Decoration Day,” Memorial Day began after the Civil War as a way to honor fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers and flags. Over time, the holiday evolved into a national day of remembrance for all U.S. military personnel who lost their lives while serving in the Armed Forces.

In 1971, Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May.

Today, communities across the country gather for ceremonies, parades, and moments of reflection to recognize the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in defense of our freedoms.

As we spend time with family and friends this holiday weekend, we also take time to remember the heroes who never made it home.

Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Memorial Day.
